STEP 7: Finishing

Making a Pocket from Eyelet Heart style Tokens and Trifles™ sewing cards
To join two finished hearts as a pocket for flowers or candies use one strand of floss. We will create an outline on the open section and then use the same thread ends to join the two hearts together.
Take two 20 inch long lengths of the floss and thread each of the four ends with a needle. On each heart front, pass half of one thread through the hole at the top inner valley of the heart (see diagram). Use this thread end to back stitch around the curve of the heart to the stopping point shown on the diagram. Do the same with the other thread end to form a backstitched line around what will become the open section of the heart. Repeat with the second heart. At this point you will have two hearts with backstitched lines around the top half and two needles with thread ends hanging from each heart. Place the two hearts together and change to a running stitch where each needle goes through both hearts. Each thread will produce a broken line on each heart, which is filled in by the thread from the opposite heart.
Continue with the running stitch for each of the four thread ends until the bottom tip of the heart is reached. Carefully bury your threads in between the two hearts to secure and clip off the threads.
